Table Restructure
Table Restructure (2013)
Table Restructure began with a ceramic wedging table, made and gifted to me by – artist – Spiros Panigirakis. This table became imbedded in my studio landscape, to mix clay and develop ceramic objects. To interrogate the table as a working surface, I dismantled it, and reassembled it in the form of a spiral, allowing the tabletop to fold in on itself. I pressed clay into the table’s new top, before firing it in a pit kiln. The timber of the table acted as fuel for the firing, burning away, and leaving only a collection of hardened ceramic relics, still bearing the shape of the original table, and blackened from the smoke of the burning wood.
Table Restructure was developed, alongside works by Justine Makdessi and Laxlan Petras, for the exhibition, raft, curated by Spiros Panigirakis at Craft Victoria.
